The Amy Yee Celebration

September 15, 2002

Dear friend,

This August will mark the two-year anniversary of the passing of a great Northwest tennis legend and community leader Amy Yee.  You are receiving this letter because Amy touched you in some way, whether through her unselfish love of kids, her deeds in the community, or the Amy Yee Classic tournaments, which benefit the scholarship program she established. Amy’s magic wand was her tennis racquet and she cast her spell with patience and encouragement. A community effort is underway to rename the Seattle Tennis Center in her honor. Many of you who have already shown your support by signing petitions deserve our heartfelt thanks.

The Amy Yee Celebration Committee, of the Seattle Tennis Center’s Advisory Council, is planning a joyous celebration of Amy Yee’s life, and you are invited !!!  This celebration will be held at the Seattle Tennis Center on September 15, 2002 at 2:00pm.  Co-chaired by Seattle tennis legends Tom Gorman and Trish Bostrom, the program will allow distinguished guests and civic leaders to join you in remembering and celebrating the life of this remarkable member of our tennis community.

The Seattle Parks Department’s staff and equipment along with an army of community volunteers will make the Amy Yee Celebration a rousing success. The “Amy Yee Celebration Fund”, a non-profit fund established by the Celebration Committee in Amy’s honor, will help cover some of the financial obligations of the celebration and will continue Amy’s legacy of promoting the game of tennis, especially for kids. If you would like to show your support, you can send your contribution to the “Amy Yee Celebration Fund”, at 5453 37th Ave SW, Seattle WA, 98126, or volunteer your time or services, by calling (206) 938-2379.

In preparation for the September event, the Celebration Committee is working with the Parks Department to have plans approved for landscape renovations and signage for the facility. Once the plans are approved, it will be time to get down to some hard work! Although the Tennis Center Advisory Council has received grant money to help pay for plants, volunteers are needed for “planting parties” to be held in August. If you would like to be a part of the beautification of the Tennis Center and volunteer your time, please call (206) 938-2379.

Again, you are invited to join us all in remembering the life and accomplishments of Amy Yee, an important influence on generations of Northwest tennis players. We look forward to seeing you September 15!

Sincerely,

Joycie, Linda, Gordy & Gary Yee
