Welcome to the 48th issue
of the Yee Fung Toy Global Village Voice, an electronic
newsletter for the World Yee community. In this issue we
are featuring Summer activities from the Yee family
associations around the world.
We like to congratulate
the YFT Society of Calgary folks for hosting
successfully the 17th Canada National Yee Family
Convention in Calgary, attended by many distinguished
guests, delegates and members on July 29 - August 1,
2016, Thanks for your warmth and hospitality!
We welcome more Yee
chapters to contribute events and activities reports
from their locale.
We thank all those who have made contributions to this issue, including:
Martin Yee, Vancouver
A Yee
couple had cause to celebrate recently on the
occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary.
Canada YFT advisor Dick and his spouse, Georgina
Yee, who marked their Diamond Wedding on Saturday,
June 11, at the YFT Society Hall. Attended by many
family members, Mah cousins, close friends and Yee
members.
Advisor Dick and Georgina Yee are as much in love
today as they were when they were teenagers.
Happy 60th anniversary to you both! This is what
dedication and marriage should be. You work for your
relationship through thick and thin and stand by
your spouse.

Taking
advantage of the school holidays, Singapore Yee Clan
Association's youth group decided to go out to relax,
unwind, as variety is the spice of life. Youth
Committee leaders Zhang Xing ¡]³¹ ¿³¡^and
Zhang Qi¡]³¹±Ò¡^, after some
research, selected the southern tip of Johor's West
Coast Kukup Fishing resort as the weekend getaway
location, where you can get to savor the fresh
seafood, stay in one of the holiday chalets and
experience the relaxing seaside atmosphere.
On the 18th June, 7 am, 32 members of the Association
assembled at Bukit Pasoh Road. All of us were excited
to visit this exotic semi-floating fishing village. In
the old days, these rickety wooden houses were build
on stilts above the sea. Today, it is turned into a
popular resort and good seafood outlets. Fish farms
dotted the sea fronting this village. Fish farmers
supplied their seafood produce to the local
restaurants - meaning fresh seafood.
Night fall,
some of us recce the village and found a local school,
a temple, a Hokkien Street Opera. The others stayed
behind in the rest-house to karaoke or fire up a few
mini hot air balloons and fire-works.
Next morning,
we checked out and had lunch at Pontian town before
heading home.
The Northern
Song Dynasty Yee Jing statue unveiling ceremony was
held in the city of Shaoguan plaza on June 19th. The
newly sculptured Yee Jing statue was donated to the
city of Shaoquan by the 33rd generation of Yee Jing¡¦s
descendants, Ms. Yu Meixiao of Macau,
Since 2015
sculptors began to design and construction of the
statue at a cost of about $500,000. With the "Wu Xi
set" as background behind the statue of Yee Jing,
depicts the elegance of our Northern Song Dynasty
ancestor Yee Jing.
The opening
ceremony was broadcasted in one of the Shaoquan
TV stations.
On June 23,
2016 the New York Yee Fong Toy Association had the
honor and privilege of having the California State
Controller, the Honorable
Betty T. Yee , her mom and her husband visit its
hall. Grand Elder Kenneth, Eastern Grand President
Frank, President Jin Shao, Vice President Dong Rong,
Grand Advisors John and Gong Sum, Advisor Andy, as
well as members welcomed our special cousins on their
first visit to our chapter.
After a brief
traditional ceremony, Advisor Andy introduced Betty to
our members and members of the press by saying the
following: Cousin Betty Yee of San Francisco came to
the East coast on business. She took a day off and
visited our family association with her husband and
mom.
Betty has
over 30 years of experience in public sector. She is
currently California State Controller. Previously she
served as a member of the California Board of
Equalization from 2004 to 2015. While serving the
Board, Betty had one very notable important
accomplishment. She led a successful effort to force
Amazon.com to collect sales taxes on online purchases.
It was so-called "Amazon tax".
Betty
attended University of California, Berkeley as an
undergraduate, and received a bachelor's degree in
sociology. She went on to attend Golden Gate
University, and earned a master's degree in Public
Administration.
We at New
York YFT family association wish Betty, and family
good health and good luck. We wish Betty the best of
luck in her future political career. Hope she will
become the governor of California soon and come back
to visit us again.
Betty began
her remarks by thanking everyone for the warm family
welcome that her family received on this first visit
to our association. Although we are on opposite ends
of the United States, we are united by a common Yee
family history. So, it is important with the shared
bond from villages back home to a shared cultural
history that this kinship continues to grow. Also as
an elected official, she believe bringing together
strong communities are important for continued
opportunity and growth for all. Betty wished everyone
good health, good luck and hope to be back soon.
President Jin
Shao then praised Betty for her accomplishments and
wish her continued success as a public servant. We
then accompanied Betty and her family to visit Chinese
Consolidated Benevolent Association and meet with CCBA
President Jerry Shiao. We all continued our meeting at
Joy Luck Restaurant for a luncheon to talk about
thoughts for our future. Afterwards was the best part,
shopping for bargains in NYC Chinatown. A small group
of us stayed to lead this adventure. An awesome day it
turn out for all.
This was a
friendly karaoke session between six neighboring
fellow Clan Associations. We were the last leg of the
circuit. The Yee Clan organizing sub-committee
constructed a low stage. Purchased a new 19" monitor
screen and stand and worked very hard to get our
premise ready for this event.
The evening started with a scrumptious buffet with
beer and red wine free flowing. Our President Yee Whai
Lin then made a welcoming speech and declared the
Karaoke Session opened.
Jessica and Soi Muay were the MCs of the evening. They
were so good that all karaoke singers felt very
comfortable and sang their best. Everyone had a
wonderful evening and even asked for extend time.

The Yee Fung
Toy Association of Chicago's 27th annual July 4th
picnic was held at the Half Day Forest Preserve Park,
Lake County, IL.
The New York
Yee Fong Toy Association held its annual picnic at
Quassy Amusement Park and Water Park in Middlebury, CT
on July 16, 2016. For the last few years, finding the
right venue has been difficult due to rising cost, but
for 100 of us, we were determined to have a day of
fun. The day started out perfect, the weather was
great and the participants arrived on time to be
greeted by our President Jin Shao ¥D
®uÀA»à, Grand Advisor Gong Sum Á`ÅU°Ý¿û²`, English Secretaries
Christine and Daniel ^¤å®Ñ°O¤pÁ¨,®üÆN
, Treasurer °]¬F°®·½ and other
staff members as well as I ¬üªFÁ`ªø§»°ò,
as we boarded our two chartered buses. Then as we were
about to embark on our journey, two police officers
rushed to issue us two summons for illegal parking
costing $230, even though we had permits. We then ran
into some unforeseen traffic; what should have taken
90 minutes took almost three hours. But being Yees and
New Yorkers, we will overcome.
As we arrived at the park, I was pleasantly surprised
at what they have done to improve the park since our
last visited over ten years ago. There is now a new
colorful water park, additional new thrill rides like
the new Reverse Time ride along with a new management
team determined to make sure families are welcome. I
was relieved that our group had the same impression
and was going to have an enjoyable day. To my
amazement, no one objected to staying an additional
hour. This year, Gong and I recruited another
young-at-heart Daniel to join us for some fun. We were
no match to keep up with the young folks so we did the
next best thing, unlimited bumper cars, boat rides on
Lake Quassapaug, riding the 50-foot grand carousel and
ice cream. Other folks enjoyed the magic show, leisure
walks, paddle boats and waterfront views. I am so
grateful to see that once a year everyone was young at
heart again.
The annual
Yee Fung Toy Association Detroit chapter family picnic
was held on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Capital Park in
Redford, Michigan. About 50 of our Yee cousins and
friends were in attendance to enjoy some fun and food
and to honor our young scholars with scholarship
checks.
Picnic goers enjoyed a lunch of fried chicken, pizza,
fried rice, noodles, and Chinese pastries and baked
goods. After lunch, there were games for the
youngsters and 50/50 and door prize raffles. Many of
the door prize gifts were generously donated by Da
Zhong Food Market. In addition to scholarship checks,
each of the students received a Yee logo tumbler
donated by Bee Hai (Yee) Wong.

Four members,
Kevin Lee, Warren Yee, Fred And Clara Yee, of the
Seattle YFT Association participated in the 2016
Seattle Chinatown Sea Fair Parade in the evening of
July 24.
Over 10 Seattle area family associations and tongs
participated in the parade. There were seemingly
unending number of wonderful floats in the parade.
South King
Street was the main parade route which of packed with
onlooking on both sides of the street. The atmosphere
was upbeat and everyone seems to enjoy ones the Parade
very much.
The 17th
Canadian Yee Fung Toy National Convention was held
from July 29 to August 2, 2016 in Calgary, Alberta.
Fred & Clara Yee represented the Seattle YFT
Association at the convention. They are also among 52
delegates and guests from the U.S. at the event. In
total, there were over 120 individuals attending with
the opening banquet attended by over 400 guests.
The 3 day
event was full of activities and festive wonders.
Apart from the regular business meetings for the
delegates, convention guests enjoyed two days of
touring to Drumheller Royal Terrell Museum, Lake
Louise, Banff and Bow Fall.
The opening and closing ceremony and banquet were held
at the Regency Seafood Restaurant. Ancestral worship
was held at the Calgary YFT Association and a visit to
the Ma Family Association was made by a number of
convention delegates and guests.
The Yee Fung
Toy Association of Houston had its annual
scholarship/picnic on August 6, 2016 at the beautiful

38 Singapore
members left for Muar in 3 mini-coaches on the early
morning of Sunday, August 21st. All of us were in high
spirits and eager for this day trip especially when
durian was in the menu. Thanks to Chen Meng and Yongfu
who organized this wonderful tour.
We arrived at
Dewan Keturunan Yee, Muar and were greeted by Chairman
Yee Kim Sai, Yu Shuanggeng (§EÂù©°)
and their compatriots. A Muar River Cruise was
arranged and we saw its captivating river sights. We
admired a recently commissioned giant wall art by
Russian Artist Julia Volchkova. Finally, we had a
wonderful durian feast. All of us had a good time.
Thanks to the fine hospitality of the Malacca-Muar
Yees.
