Seattle Yee Fung Toy
Open House
|
Over a hundred Yee Fung Toy members and
their families, invited friends and community leaders attended the July
20, 2008 Seattle Yee Fung Toy Association open house celebration. The
Association recently moved into newly leased facilities at the Eng Suey
Sun Plaza (815 S. Weller's Street, Suite 210, Seattle, WA
98104) after over two years of temporary location at member De Sum
Yee's family home. The new office of the Association is compact in term
of space but is very functional and meets the current space needs of
the Seattle Chapter.
Several association members have spent many hours arranging for the
move, remodeling the office space and preparing for the open house
celebration. Special thanks are to De Sum Yee and family, Yao Dong Yu,
Kit Fung Yee, Uncle Hing Ng and others for their time and support for
the success relocation of chapter office.
The open house celebration began at noon with the traditional ancestral
ceremony of lighting candles and incense to pay respect to our Yee
ancestor Yee Sheung Kung. Master Kwok Fung Leung's Kung Fu team
performed the traditional lion dance and several wonderful acts of
martial art skills and magic. The performance included the breaking of
granite blocks, precision body balancing of small objects and body
twisting through a metal ring.
A buffet lunch was served after the performance with wonderful help
from several lady members of the association. Uncle Hing and Uncle
James Yee gave thank you speeches in Chinese and English. The open
house attracted many young families and children. All were invited to
attend the July 27 Annual Seattle Yee Picnic at the Woodland Park Zoo.

54th Seattle Yee Family
Association Annual Picnic
|
|
Sunday, July 27th was the day of the
Seattle Yee Fung Toy Association's
2008 Annual Picnic at Woodland
Park, Seattle.
Western Grand President, Joseph Yu and his wife, two guests from
Portland, 2 guests from Cincinnati, two guests from Hawaii, and four
members from the Yee Fung Toy Society of Vancouver came to join the
picnic.
A total of 29 scholarships were awarded at the picnic this year. It was
very encouraging to see so many young Yees show interest in applying
for these scholarships. They are the future of our association. We had
a prize draw after the scholarship awards.
The day ended with about 30 members and guests attended an appreciation
dinner at the Renton Seafood Restaurant in Renton.

Eight members of the Seattle Yee Fung
Toy Association spent Easter Sunday visited several Seattle area
cemeteries to pay respect to our elders who passed away and were buried
in Seattle.
Among the cemeteries visited were Holyrood, Lakeview, Evergreen-Wasali
and Mt. Pleasant.
Easter Sunday was a windy and rainy day; however, the weather did not
dampen the spirit of the group for the visits after paying respect to
the Yee Ancestral Altar which is housed on the top floor of De Sum
Yee's house.
The group met at De Sum Yee's house on Beacon Hill at
10:30 pm in the
morning. They headed out to the cemeteries after a light meal and
visited all four cemeteries until 3:00 pm.
Great thanks to Suey Yee and De Sum Yee for arranging for the cemetery
visit supplies and the food for the day. |
