Vancouver Chinatown Spring Festival Dinner Gala
Members of the Yee Fung Toy Society of Vancouver
were invited to attend the "2026 Vancouver
Chinatown Spring Festival Celebration," jointly
organized by the Vancouver Chinese Benevolent
Association, the Chinese Cultural Centre of
Greater Vancouver, the Vancouver Chinatown
Merchants Association, S.U.C.C.E.S.S., The
Chinese Freemasons of Vancouver, and the Shon
Yee Association of Canada, along with several
other overseas Chinese and ethnic organizations.
The celebration took place on the evening of
Sunday, February 22, the sixth day of the first
lunar month in the Year of the Horse, at 6:00
PM, at the former site of Floata Seafood
Restaurant.
The organizing committee of the Vancouver
Chinatown Lunar New Year Celebration recently
stated that this year they faced considerable
challenges due to the closure of the Chinatown
Floata Seafood Restaurant. Despite this, the
evening's 'New Year Banquet' for a thousand
guests was still held at the former site of
Floata Seafood Restaurant, with a specially
hired team of chefs to prepare the feast, making
this year's banquet more creative and
innovative. The dinner was managed by the
Chinese Canadian Catering Association,
meticulously planned to present guests with a
sumptuous meal.
That evening, three levels Canadian government
officials attended, and the banquet began with
the national anthems of both Canada and China.
The program was rich and varied, including a
lion dance performance, New Year greetings,
singing and dancing shows, and a Chinese New
Year dinner. The atmosphere on site was lively
and festive, filled with the joyous spirit of
the Lunar New Year.
At this time of warming and thawing of
China-Canada relations, this event brings
together the Chinese community, promotes
exchanges, and injects new momentum into
China-Canada friendship. Acting Consul General
Zeng Zhi of the Chinese Consulate General in
Vancouver extended his New Year greetings to
overseas Chinese and friends from various
sectors, shared the good news about China's visa
exemption policy for Canada, and remarked that
the over-five-decade-long history of the
Vancouver Chinatown Spring Festival celebrations
stands as a testament to the profound friendship
between BC and China. He expressed his hope to
work hand in hand with all sectors in the
consular district to implement the important
common understandings reached by the leaders of
the two countries and to foster stronger
bilateral exchanges and cooperation.
Members of the Yee Fung Toy Society of Vancouver
sincerely wish everyone a prosperous and healthy
new year, family happiness, and success in all
endeavors.

Vancouver YFT Annual Spring Memorial Ceremony
With the arrival of spring and the blooming of
flowers, nature brings renewal to all. Taking
advantage of favorable weather, members of the
Yee Fung Toy Society of Vancouver assembled at
the Chinese pavilion at Mountain View Cemetery
on the morning of March 22nd (Sunday). The group
carefully prepared offerings, including roast
pig, wine, fresh flowers, and fruits, alongside
memorial texts written in both Chinese and
English. These preparations were made for the
annual spring memorial ceremony, a tradition
dedicated to paying respect to the deceased and
honoring the sages.
After the ritual ceremony, members returned to
the hall to share the sacrificial meat together.
This act continues a longstanding tradition,
reflecting respect for ancestors and gratitude
for the origins of the society.

The YFT Society of Vancouver Annual Gala Dinner and Scholarship Awards Ceremony
On Saturday, April 4, 2026, the Yee Fung Toy
Society of Vancouver proudly hosted its Annual
Gala Dinner at the Pink Pearl Restaurant in
Chinatown, alongside the 2024–2025 Scholarship
Awards Ceremony. The event brought together a
distinguished group of honoured guests,
community leaders, members, and friends. With
sixteen tables filled, the evening unfolded in a
warm, festive atmosphere, reflecting the
Society’s deep kinship ties and strong sense of
community.
This year’s scholarship award ceremony was
jointly hosted by Mr. George KC Yee, Director of
the Education Fund Committee, and Mr. Larry Yee,
Deputy Director. Their leadership ensured the
event was both solemn and warm. The Yee Fung Toy
Society of Vancouver has long embraced the
principle of “supporting the next generation and
nurturing talents,” consistently assisting
members’ children and outstanding students
through its scholarship program. The aim is to
inspire the younger generation to study
diligently, stay true to their aspirations,
prepare for the future, and ultimately
contribute to their families and society.
Each scholarship recognizes not only academic
achievement but also reflects the deep hopes of
elders for the younger generation. The Yee Fung
Toy Society of Vancouver encourages all
award-winning students to remain grateful, carry
forward the love and trust of their clan, and
strive to build a future for themselves.
Scholarships were awarded this year to eleven
students for their outstanding academic
performance. The recipients are:
• Elementary School
Group (1 student): Leah Yee.
• Secondary School
Group (6 students): Alexander
Yee, Colton Yee, Emma Yee, Sherman Yee, Marcus
Yee and Maddox Yee.
• University Group
(Four members): Danny Yu, Hailey Yu, Shawn Yee,
Christopher Yu.
Mrs. Carla Yee personally presented two essay
contest awards to Sherman Yee and Hailey Yu.
Both students impressed the judges with essays
that were sincere in intention, offered unique
perspectives, and featured smooth, natural
writing. Their works stood out as the best
essays of the year, highlighting their critical
thinking and literary ability.
Mrs. Carla Yee has been a long-time supporter of
educational initiatives, encouraging students to
strive for excellence through her actions. Her
selfless dedication has contributed to the
growth and progress of many students and
inspired younger generations. The Society
expresses its heartfelt gratitude and hopes her
love and spirit will continue to benefit more
young students.
Some scholarship recipients were unable to
attend the ceremony due to being out of town or
prior commitments, including Maddox Yee, Danny
Yu, Hailey Yu, Christopher Yu, and Shawn Yee.
The school sends its regards and sincere
congratulations to these students.
The gala dinner featured an exciting raffle
draw, with prizes generously provided by
directors of the Yee Fung Toy Society of Canada
and Vancouver, as well as Mr. Anthony Cheung,
Senior Investment Advisor at the Royal Bank of
Canada. A special “Money Tree” segment allowed
winners to pick prize envelopes from the tree,
adding a fresh and fun element to the evening
and enhancing the lively atmosphere. The Society
extends sincere thanks to all sponsors for their
generosity, which made the prize draw especially
memorable.
The evening concluded successfully with laughter
and warm wishes, further strengthening bonds
among clan members and demonstrating the Yee
Fung Toy Society of Vancouver’s commitment to
valuing education and preserving cultural
heritage. YFT Society of Vancouver |
