Southern California YFT Meet and Greet
Luncheon with Lauren Yee
With great
response, more than 60 Southern California Yee
Family Association members gathered on Saturday July
15, 2017 to host a Meet and Greet Luncheon for
playwright Lauren Yee, her father and Yee Family
Grand Elder Larry Yee, along with cast and crew of
the Los Angeles production of King of the Yees. Our
guests had the opportunity to see a typical Gong So
(¤½©Ò) and experience our speeches and hospitality.
Members and guests engaged in great conversations
and asked questions to better understand the family
association, our mission and what we do. Our sincere
hope is that this experience not only enhances the
knowledge and understanding for the cast and crew,
but also inspires creativity in their production.
Lauren
graduated from Yale, a prestigious Ivy League
university. Her talent and passion in the arts has
brought her on an unique path that is not typical
for a young Chinese-American woman born and raised
in San Francisco. It was refreshing for young
members as well as our seniors to hear of Lauren¡¦s
talents and accomplishments as a playwright. We also
enjoyed hosting Grand Elder Larry Yee and his wife
Denise, who shared their perspective on supporting
their daughter in her interests in the arts.

A Yee Night at the Theatre - July 15,
2017
On the day
before opening night, the Yees organized a group of
around 80 people to support and attend Lauren Yee¡¦s
play, The King of the Yees. Lauren is the daughter
of Grand Elder Larry Yee. Honored guests, Larry and
his wife Denise drove down from San Francisco to
attend a Meet and Greet Luncheon at the Gong So
hosted by the Southern California Yee Family
Association in honor of Lauren and the cast and crew
of the play. Larry, Denise and Lauren also greeted
everyone at the play. Our Southern California group
was joined by Stephanie Yee and her daughters Megan
and Emily from Phoenix, as well as Eastern Vice
Grand President Kenneth Yee, his wife May, and their
family. After the play, a talk back was set up for
the audience to hear from the cast, director, Lauren
and Larry. The turnout was much appreciated by
Lauren and the reception for the play was extremely
positive.
As
explained, the play is a semi-autobiographical story
of Lauren¡¦s relationship with her father Larry Yee.
Using San Francisco Chinatown and the Yee Fung Toy
as a backdrop, the story is told through the eyes of
both father and daughter. Lauren loves her father,
but does not understand his love and commitment to
the Chinese community and the family association.
After losing her father, Lauren takes a journey
through San Francisco Chinatown to find her father
and starts to gain a better insight into the world
of Larry¡¦s imagination. The play is full of
surprises and pageantry. But ultimately, it opens
our hearts to discovering the stories of our parents
and our personal connections to our Chinese lineage,
culture, and history.

2017 Detroit Yee Fung Toy Association
Annual Picnic
The annual
Yee Fung Toy Association Detroit chapter family
picnic was held on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Handy
Park in Redford, Michigan. Over 40 of our Yee
cousins and friends were in attendance to enjoy some
fun and food and to honor our young scholars with
scholarship checks.
Picnic
goers enjoyed a lunch of pizza, fried chicken,
vegetarian fried rice, chicken lo mein, and Chinese
pastries and baked goods. Since it was also National
Ice Cream Day, for dessert we had ice cream
sandwiches. After lunch, there was a balloon toss
game and 50/50 and door prize raffles. Several of
the door prize gifts were generously donated by Da
Zhong Food Market.

New England YFT Chapter¡¦s Summer
Outing 2017
NE YFT held
their summer outing on Sunday, July 16, at AmVets
Lake Cochituate Park in Natick, MA. Over 100 adult
members and their children attended this year¡¦s
outing. The two YFT Co-Chairs, Advisors, Officers,
and Yee daughter husbands (©h·Ý)
all combined to help steam all the lobsters and corn
and cooked hot dogs, hamburgers, and sausages on the
grills. Rotisserie chickens and pizzas were also
served, along with pasta salad and watermelon for
dessert.
The Women¡¦s
Group hosted many activities and games for all the
children and adults. Many prizes were given out. We
also had a candy guessing contest resulting in five
happy winners bringing home lots of candy. Many
children went swimming and some even brought their
own inflatable boats. We could not ask for better
weather and it was one of the more successful
outings we¡¦ve had in many years.
This was
one day where YFT came together and enjoyed the day
as one big happy family!

Singapore Yee Clan House Visits To Our Elderly Members
Wednesday,
30th July 2017, 10:00 am was our second tour in our
series of house visits to our long absent elderly
members. Firstly, we would like to meet, greet and
renew friendship with our old members. Secondly, we
would like to find out how they were doing and to
gather information as to why they stayed away from
our Association. Thirdly, we took this opportunity
to update our membership data records. Fourthly, we
gave them details of our past and coming activities
and urged them to attend our future functions.
Those old
members whom we visited showed great joy seeing us
and were very open to talking about their past
experiences. We wished them good health, happiness
and looking forward to seeing them again soon at the
Association.

Jenny Yee (Vancouver) Visited Yee
Clan Association
Jenny Yee,
daughter of our President, Whai Lin, was here
recently on her short working visit. She lives in
Vancouver. Despite her tight schedule in Singapore
and Medan, Indonesia, she took time off to visit our
Association - working too hard but your visit to our
Association was greatly appreciated.
We would
like to wish Jenny and her family good health,
happiness and to spend quality time with her
parents. Do come back more often!

[SCYFT] Southern California Yee
Picnic
The
Southern California Yee Family Association held its
annual picnic at Barnes Park in Monterey Park, CA on
Saturday August 19, 2017. Over 160 Yees of all ages
and generations gathered for a wonderful sunny
afternoon of great fun, food and fellowship.
The day
began with the early arrivals participating in
morning stretch, exercise and tai chi. There were
various activities throughout the day. For the
youngsters and the families, we had a variety of
organized games (puzzles, coloring sheets, chess and
sculpting balloons), including water balloons and a
pinata. The pinata is always a favorite with the
younger kids, although a few would argue that
several of the parents and grandmothers might have
enjoyed the adrenaline rush of all the gifts and
toys dropping from the broken pinata even a bit more
than the kids.
Many of the
adults and seniors enjoyed singing and karaoke. The
large spread of food is always the centerpiece of
the SoCal picnic. The Yee ladies did a wonderful job
of laying out all the food and serving everyone. As
is our custom, the members of the Southern
California Yee Family Association always love and
enjoy the finale of the picnic, ¡§The Raffle and
Lucky Drawing¡¨.
