What is in the Next Issue?Welcome to the 59th issue of
the Yee Fung Toy Global Village Voice, an
electronic newsletter for the World Yee community.
In this issue we are featuring some of the Spring activities from the Yee associations around the world, such as Spring banquets and day trips. And now, we'd like to thank
all contributors, and remind anyone who wants to
become a contributor that they can email us their
reports and photos of events and activities from

leadership of Southern California Yee Family
Association held a ¡§Lion Awakening¡¨ ceremony on
Saturday February 2, 2019 for its 2 newest Lions
just arrived from China. The ceremony is to bless the brand new Lions before its first performance or dance. The purpose of the ritual is to empower the lion to fulfill its duty of bringing about protection, good luck, health, and prosperity to those present. Kenny Q. Yee, Southern

Seattle YFT 2019 Spring Banquet

Association celebrated the Chinese Lunar New
Year with a delicious dinner at the Joy Palace
Seafood Restaurant in Seattle on Thursday,
March 7, 2019. Everyone had a great time seeing old friends and meeting new ones.

New England YFT 2019 New Year Banquet
The Yee Fung Toy Association of New
England celebrated their 2019 Spring
Festival/Senior Appreciation banquet on
Saturday, March 9th. More than 500 members
and guests attended this event. The night started off with a lion dance with performers led by our own Mai Du¡¦s Wah Lum Academy. This was followed by our Women¡¦s Group singing and dancing performances. Many other events happened throughout the evening, with speeches from community leaders and the awarding of our annual college scholarships to 15 undergraduate students. This year we also gave out our first Graduate Degree scholarship, donated by the late Gen Yuen Yee. This year¡¦s recipient was Alice Iu, daughter of Advisor Kin Heng Iu.

held its Chinese Lunar New Year and
honoring senior members¡¦ celebration
on Saturday, March 23rd, 2019. The evening Spring Banquet gala was again at Jing Fong Restaurant.

Sacramento Yees Welcome the Lunar Year of the Pig
On Sunday, March 24th, we welcome
the Lunar Year of the Pig and the
Spring Festival celebration. After
we pay homage to our ancestors at
noon, a buffet lunch was served at
the Association Hall, with guests
from the San Francisco Yee Family
Association Headquarter and the
Stockton Chapter attending. In the evening, there was a dinner banquet at the Well Season Dim Sum Seafood Restaurant for all members, families and guests. Our special guest is State Controller Betty T. Yee and her spouse.

2019 Ching Ming Ceremony in Vancouver
Qingming, also known as the Ching Ming
Festival, is a Chinese custom also
found in other Asian cultures and
celebrated around the world. Sometimes
called Tomb Sweeping Day or Pure
Brightness, which is the literal
English translation of qingming, this
celebration is held annually. Set
aside to remember and honour ancestors
who have passed away. On Sunday, March 31st, around 11:00am, fifteen members of the YFT Society of Vancouver and Canada gathered at the Mountainview Cemetery to attend the annual Ching Ming memorial service.

Transition of The World Yee Flag Ceremony
The transition of The World Yee
Flag Ceremony was held smoothly in
Hong Kong on April 13th,
Delegates from Thailand,
Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan,
Macau, USA, Canada and Hong Kong
were in attendance to witness this
historical moment.
The Thailand Yu Clansmen
Association will host the 8th
World Yee Convention in 2021. President Seng Ching Yu of the Thailand Yu Clan Association cordially invites everyone in attendance to attend.

Commemorating 150th Anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad¡¦s Completion
One of the most iconic
and life-altering
events in America¡¦s
history ¡V the
completion of the
Transcontinental
Railroad ¡V happened in
Utah on May 10, 1869.
To
commemorate the 150th
Anniversary of the
completion of
America¡¦s
Transcontinental
Railroad. Union
Pacific Recreates
Historic Steam Meet,
featuring Union
Pacific's iconic steam
locomotives, Living
Legend No. 844 and Big
Boy No. 4014. The two
met, recreating the
historic image taken
at Promontory Summit
on May 10, 1869. Historians, scholars and descendants of workers gathered in Promontory, Utah, to celebrate the completion of a railroad in 1869 that changed the United States. A
